DIX Brewmaster Derrick Franche

With both the 100th beer rotation celebration at the Alibi Room and DIX X-Mas X-treme beer festival last week, you’d be right to think that Christmas came early for craft beer lovers here in Vancouver. The 100th beer rotation celebration brought brewers and craft beer fans together to sample some of the best beers brewed here in BC. Owner Nigel Springthorpe billed the event as a tribute to the BC craft brewing community, highlighting the many talented brewers we have here in the province.

DIX brewmaster Derrick Franche’s yearly X-Mas X-Treme winter beer festival featured over 20 winter beers. Craft beer enthusiasts packed the DIX to sample some interesting, creative, and downright delicious ‘one-offs’. Special mention goes to Dave Varga, who won the brewers choice award for his Taylor’s Crossing Christmas Cake, an amber ale flavoured with molasses, spices, and brandied fruit. Also worth noting was R&B’s Auld Nick Winter Ale, which won the peoples choice award. The Vancouver Morris Men were on hand to keep the party lively with their traditional English folk dances and songs.

These two events showcased the creativity and talent of BC craft brewers. Thanks again to  everyone involved with the events: the brewers, the organizers, and the volunteers!

Cheers!
