Please welcome our latest corporate sponsor, Red Truck Brewing:
“The Freshest Beer on Four Wheels
Red Truck Beer is
built on the values of a simpler time-when bars only served beer and
whiskey, when trucks were working vehicles, not status symbols, and
when business deals were sealed with a hand-shake and a toast, not by
lawyers and email. That’s why we make our beer from only the four basic
ingredients with no preservatives or pasteurization, why our trucks
still go to work each day, and why we run a business that’s based on
integrity and commitment. Maybe it’s not the modern way, and it’s
definitely not the easiest way, but it’s the way we are committed to
doing business: making great beer, spending time with our customers,
and rolling up our sleeves when we need to.”
Red Truck Brewing
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, the Beer Wars screening has been postponed to
January 31 at 4:00pm. To make up for the extra wait We’ll have local breweries on-hand serving their own craft beer, including Steamworks, Yaletown, Granville Island, and Red Truck. Tickets are $25 for CAMRA members ($30 for non-members), and include entry and beer. To attend you must purchase you tickets online.

Casks
This Friday marks the start of Amber Jack’s monthly cask programme, which aims to bring real ale closer to the many craft beer fans outside of Vancouver. In other news, Dustin Sepkowski, Spinnakers’ malt enthusiast, has started to blog Spinnaker’s cask ale lineup. Spinnakers taps a cask of real ale every day at 4:00pm — stop by if you’re ever heading to Victoria. This week’s casks can be found here.
Yaletown Making it Real (Ale)
January 14 @ 4:00pm Brewmaster Iain Hill has a cask of Pale Ale dry-hopped with lots of Columbus. This is one of the ‘Big C’ hops (Cascade, Columbus, Centennial). Iain’s pale ale should present this big, resinous, and citrusy hop nicely.
Dix Cask Thursday
January 14 @ 5:00pm If your a fan of Derrick’s IPA you won’t want to miss this. DIX Brewmaster Derrick Franche will tap a cask of his IPA for us this week. This is a big, yet balanced IPA with a noticeable grapefruit hops profile.
Amber Jack’s Cask Night in The Burbs
January 15 @ 7:30pm Amber Jack’s will kick off the start of their cask programme with a cask from Russell Brewing. Brewmaster Jack Bensley has brewed an oak conditioned porter hat will be tapped at 7:30pm. This is an exciting beer to start a cask programme with; oak conditioning usually adds a smooth vanilla character, and sometimes similar to roasted coconut. Live music will be provided by The Mojo Stars, a highly
original blues/rock band with roots in R&B, funk and jazz.
The Whip Real Ale Sundays
January 17 @ 4:00pm This Saturday The whip will have a cask from Daniel Knibbs at Dead Frog. Daniel has a cask of his Extra Dark Ale, loaded with Cara malt and chocolate malt and aggressively dry-hopped with whole Cascade, Centennial, and Zeus hops. 6.5% ABV.
St. Augustines’s Manichean Mondays
January 18 @ 6:00pm St. Augustine’s has a cask of cider from Storm Brewing for us this week. Storm brewmaster James Walton has brewed this traditional English style dry cider with organic apples from Salt Spring Island. Pressed in October, this is a relatively young cider that should be crisp and aromatic.

New Beer Arrivals/Restocks/Seasonals
St. Augustine’s will be installing their new taps this week. By the end of the week they should have Rogue Mogul Madness and Deschutes Mirror Pond on tap, along with two more beers pending confirmation. St. Augustine’s is also in the process of updating their bottle list, so expect new things for the weeks to come. Tree Brewing, Howe Sound Brewing, and Russell are all aiming to release their latest seasonals in the next week or so:
- Tree Brewing’s
award-winning Hop Head Double IPA should be hitting shelves sometime
next week. At 8%, 85 IBUs, and five varieties of hops, this will be
sure to please the hop heads out there.
- Howe Sound’s Three Beavers Imperial Red Ale, the latest in there John Mitchell Series, should be out next week as well. Its 7.5% ABV and 45 IBUs. It should be a strong and malty red ale, with a large Cascade hops profile on the nose.
- Russell’s Black Death Porter is on its way too. It’s been brewed with UK caramel, crystal and black malt, and hopped with Willamette. 6.5% ABV.
