Casks
Dustin Sepkowski has an informative summary of this week’s casks at Spinnakers on his blog. Casks are tapped every day at 4:00pm at Spinnakers.
St. Augustines’s Manichean Mondays
January 18 and January 25 @ 6:00pm
St. Augustine’s has a cask of cider from Storm Brewing for us this week. Storm brewmaster James Walton has brewed this traditional English style dry cider with organic apples from Salt Spring Island. Pressed in October, this is a relatively young cider that should be crisp and aromatic. Next week St. Augustine’s will tap a cask Driftwood Brewing’s Crooked Coast Alt, dry-hopped with Saaz hops!
Yaletown Making it Real (Ale)
January 21 @ 4:00pm
Brewmaster Iain Hill has a cask of his Brick and Beam IPA dry-hopped with Cascade. According to Iain, this will be a softer, well-balanced IPA with the usual citrusy notes from the Cascade hops. Iain recommends enjoying this IPA with a plate of fish and chips, and notes that with its hoppy profile it should stand up well to other greasy or fatty foods.
Dix Cask Thursday
January 21 @ 5:00pm
No cask this week due to a Canucks home game.
The Whip Real Ale Sundays
January 24 @ 4:00pm
Crannog Ales will have a special cask at The Whip this Sunday to celebrate Crannog’s 10th anniversary. No word yet on the details of the cask but it will be the same as the cask tapped at Crannog’s open house on the 31st.

New Beer Arrivals/Restocks/Seasonals
In case you missed it, here’s the new beer roundup from last week’s newsletter:
- Tree Brewing’s
award-winning Hop Head Double IPA has been shipped from the brewery — expect to see it on the shelves this week! At 8%, 85 IBUs, and five varieties of hops, this will be
sure to please the hop heads out there.
- Howe Sound’s Three Beavers Imperial Red Ale, the latest in there John Mitchell Series, should be out this week as well. Its 7.5% ABV and 45 IBUs. It should be a strong and malty red ale, with a large Cascade hops profile on the nose.
- Russell’s Black Death Porter has arrived. It’s been brewed with UK caramel, crystal and black malt, and hopped with Willamette. 6.5% ABV. Look for it at your local private liquor store.
