#FUSS Becomes an Election Issue in Vancouver

I was recently contacted by Scott Colbourne of One City Vancouver who told me of their One_city_logo“Fun City” Plan, part of which was to ensure that establishments that posted “a pint” serving delivered a 568ml pint. They call it “A PINT IS A PINT IS A PINT”. After I spoke to Scott I pointed out that CAMRA had been contacting the city licensing offices with this for many years and had gotten no response. We also pointed out that rather than force places that are incorrectly advertising pints to replace their glassware, they should simply be encouraged to correctly post their actual serving sizes (not glass sizes) and be fined if it is found that they are not delivering on that.

Prospective City Councillor RJ Aquino of the One City team agrees: “A pint is 568 millilitres and that should mean you get 568 millilitres of your favourite local beer or cider — don’t call it a pint unless it is a pint. A fun city is an affordable city where you know what you are getting for your money. Accurately listing serving sizes is in the best interests of public safety and ensuring all of our great local bars and restaurants are operating on a level playing field.”

The One City Team also said that City Hall should use its business licensing powers to require bars and restaurants to list the actual sizes of the drinks they sell and their prices, and the City should assign penalties for businesses that don’t follow these Provincial guidelines.

CAMRA BC remains politically neutral but committed to working with representatives on all sides at all levels of government to protect craft beer drinkers and their rights.

GROWLER CONSULTATION UPDATE:

The Government has looked at all the opinions (thanks to everyone who contributed) and decided that it is a complicated issue and needs more consultation. Douglas Scott – Growler consultation
