CAMRA Powell River’s Inaugural Craft Beer Festival

Last year we ran a bus trip up to Powell River, BC for their Oktoberfest and to help the Powell River Branch of CAMRA BC launch, those who came know that it was an amazing time and most of them haven’t shut up about great it was!

Well, we’re doing it again, a party bus is booked (and trust me – this is a PARTY bus), and we’re heading up the weekend of October 4th & 5th – the weekend before Thanksgiving. We’ll leave Vancouver on Saturday morning from St. Augustine’s and come back on Sunday evening.

PR Trip

UPDATE: Tickets are now sold out for the festival – the only way to get tickets is to buy the bus package!

For just $99 ($119 for non-CAMRA) early bird pricing you get:

  • Return bus travel to Powell River from Vancouver
  • All ferry fares *it’s 2 ferry rides
  • A ticket to the Powell River Festival – Studio 56 (Across from Townsite Brewery)
  • Invite to the exclusive after-party
  • Happy hour pricing at a number of other PR watering holes with your Festival Ticket (TBC)

The Festival itself is going to be a bit different from last year, tickets are $20 for CAMRA members and $30 for Non-CAMRA there’s a good selection of breweries that are bringing up some very special brews (Paddy still has a lot of pull!), breweries already signed up:

  • Townsite
  • Driftwood
  • P49
  • Howe Sound
  • Tofino
  • Storm
  • Merridale Cider
  • Shelter Point Distillery
  • Untapped (Dieu du Ciel, Trou du Diable, Glutenfree, etc)
  • There will be a special “CAMRA BC cask” – Cedric from Townsite makes awesome casks!
There will also be food courtesy of Townsite Brewing, their spent grain and hops are fed to some local pigs and the farmer is donating one for the Festival so I hope you like pork! The tickets will sell out so if you’re going to make your own way up then buy from Powell River Branch soon. You get 3 tokens and a tasting glass to keep, extra tokens will be $1.25 for a 4oz sample and every penny from the festival will go to help Powell River Branch in their growth – they have almost 70 members already and have been campaigning hard so let’s support them!

The other part of the Festival is that it’s not only a great kick off for BC Craft Beer Month it’s also going to feature the inaugural presentation of the CAMRA BC Awards, which will hopefully be very special as there’ll be people coming from every branch in BC to celebrate.

There are lots of places to stay in Powell River, from the old Courthouse to the Cranbar, and you’ll have to sort yourself out but if you want to just camp or crash at someone’s house, it’s very easy to arrange – the PR Branch members did us proud by putting us up last year and have pledged to do it again.

The after-party is shaping up to be pretty amazing but I can’t reveal details, in fact I might not be able to until the day of!

The Sunday will feature a brunch and the 3rd CAMRA BC Executive Summit before we start on our way back suitably growlered from Townsite. We’ll also stop by at Persephone on the way back so you can refill them again.

One of the things I love about going to Powell River is access to Townsite’s Suncoast Pale Ale, one of the best beers in BC IMHO and only available on draft on the Sunshine Coast – the price is right too!

So get your ticket, join us on one of CAMRA BC’s legendary bus trips and visit one of the most wonderful places in BC! #POWtoberfest

Cheers
