CAMRA BC Summit #2 is in the Books!

On Saturday July 19th I spent over 5 hours getting to Victoria to attend the second of three Summit meetings between the individual branches and the BC Executive. These historic meetings allow us to talk over some of the problems and successes that we’ve had since our first Summit here in Vancouver. It’s also a good chance to showcase some of the great craft beer locations in that city. The meeting was held in the Penny Room at the Moon Under Water brewpub on Bay Street which is on the brewery route in Victoria that I encourage all of you to check out when you’re in our provincial capital. Notable by their absences are PR Pres Paddy Treavor (moving house) and South Fraser Pres Megan Harris.

At the Churchill (next to the Garrick’s Head) L-R: Ron McLaren (BC VP), Mark Blaseckie (BC Treasurer), Kelly McCausland (Powell River VP), Maureen Blaseckie (BC President), Adam Chatburn (Some dude), Jenn Ordze (BC Secretary) and Glen Stusek (Victoria Pres).

There was a lot to talk about such as the way that FUSS has blown up over the last few weeks with National media now taking an interest in the short pour epidemic and how we should continue that campaign, what format we should use to communicate fairly with both the businesses and you, the drinking public. I brought some of our famous freshly-calibrated measuring cups and gave one to each of the branch delegates. Naturally I checked the 20oz pour at Moon Under Water and found it well within the 0.5oz allowable  – well done folks on nailing it

Some of the things we talked about were:

  • The potential for rolling out our membership system to the other branches,
  • Each branch having a presence at the CAMRA BC booth at GCBF
  • Confirming a design for a CAMRA BC T-shirt (it looks awesome!)
  • Setting the categories for the inaugural CAMRA BC awards in Powell River this October (more on this soon!)
  • What’s Brewing hiatus
  • CAMRA Alberta and our relationship with them.

There’s plenty of exciting things coming up and if you want to know more the minutes are available soon or you can post in the comments below, failing that you can try to corner me in the pub sometime!
