Public Phase Launches

On Saturday the BC Government launched the “public phase” of the liquor review on their website. It allows everyone who wants to have an input the chance to air their views. It also features public letters from stakeholder groups with their suggestions and recommendations, CAMRA’s letter is on it’s way, we’ve had a great time thinking and talking about what we should include in the letter and to take to our meeting on September 24th., but you can have a sneak peak of our Liquor Review Letter! There will also be a twitter town hall on Sunday, September 29, 2013 6:00 p.m. TO 7:00 p.m where you can tweet your suggestions and comments to @John_yap (don’t forget to include @CAMRA_YVR and #bcliquor) – keep an eye on our social media for more info.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes and tell them what you think would make BC a better place to enjoy a drink.

They say that this is the first time in 16 years that there has been a review of liquor laws but from what I hear it was 1956 the last time there was a public consultation. So you may have to wait a long time until the next one!

Representatives from CAMRA BC: BC President Rick Green, Powell River Branch President Paddy Treavor and Vancouver Branch President Adam Chatburn will be meeting with Mr Yap, (@John_Yap) the MLA responsible for the liquor review on Tuesday the 24th September and I will have a full report of that meeting here on the CAMRA BC – Vancouver Branch website.

So far I’ve written about:

Discretionary Pricing – #discretionarypricing

Legal Parity between all forms of alcohol – #onerule

Regulation over Policy as law – #liquorpolicyreform

With more topics to come over the next few days, like #Farmers markets and the ever-popular #Growlers (we don’t forget – we’ll even be revisiting our #FUSS campaign) there’s plenty of topics to have a go at.

If you have questions, suggestions or anything to add to the discussion, now is the time – write it, post it, tweet it and be heard because this is the best chance we’ll have to make a change in BC!

Adam Chatburn,

President, CAMRA BC – Vancouver Branch.
