Corporate Supporter Spotlight: Red Truck Beer Company

This week, we continue our new series of interviews with organizations who support CAMRA and the craft beer heroes behind them. Jim Dodds, General Manager of Vancouver brewing institution Red Truck Beer Company, chatted to CAMRA about his plans for their brand new ‘truck stop’ location in the Brewery Creek area.

How would you describe Red Truck Beer Co. in a nutshell?

Red Truck Beer Company is a small BC Craft Brewer that loves brewing small batch beers for beer lovers. Red Truck Beer is about people. It’s driven to bringing folks together to enjoy the company of others. To celebrate, to raise a glass. Red Truck Beer is about pride, it’s spending a little more time so what’s in the glass is delicious!

How long have you been around?

Our Brewery started in 2005, so 8 years.

What was the inspiration behind the ‘truck stop’ concept for the new location?

We have had a dream for over 10 years now to build the Red Truck Brewery combined with the Red Truck Stop Diner. The theme of our brand being authentic and retro and combining these two traits into a classic and fun destination point for people looking for the true Red Truck Brewery and Truck Stop Diner experience. It speaks to our brand.

When is it set to open up?

The New Brewery and Diner should be ready in early 2014.

Will you be packaging your beers in bottles and filling growlers there?

Yes we will be filling growlers. We will be in Bottles and we will also be selling KEGS for parties and events. We will be offering tours and training in our brewery meeting room 7 days per week.

Are you going to be brewing any different kinds of beers once you move?

You bet we are! We will be brewing a wide variety of seasonal beers along with our core brand line up. (Which we haven’t fully decided on yet) We will be offering great tasting craft beer styles in 650ml bottles as well.

Why did you choose the Mount Pleasant area for a new location?

This is a very historic area as it is formerly known as Brewery Creek. This area is rapidly expanding and it is exciting to be the neighbours to the new Emily

Carr Campus and the Center for Digital Media. This arts and culture area is a great fit for our Brewery, Diner and most importantly our brand. We’ll help make this area a destination point for craft beer lovers right in the heart of the City of Vancouver. This area is also home to many new craft breweries, and as I stated, will definitely be a destination point for locals and tourists alike.

Any other news you’d like to share?

All in all, Red Truck Beer Company is excited to be part of the fast growing BC craft beer market. We’re all about brewing great beer and being part of the craft beer drinkers experiences. We feel at Red Truck Beer Company that it is very important to continue to brew great beer and help support our local economy and communities.
