Hello Vancouver! Events abound this month, so let’s get right into it.
I’m gonna lead off with two CAMRA Vancouver events that you folks should definitely make some time for. Next Wednesday (February 7th) the CAMRA Vancouver executive team will be hosting the annual “Meet the Exec” event at Luppolo Brewing (Voted “Best New Brewery” at our last AGM!). This is your chance to come out and meet the current exec team and see if you would be interested in joining the team this year. We’ll be there having some delicious craft beer and running a shortened version of our monthly meeting for you to sit in on. These meetings happen every month, are very informal, and help us plan where we should focus our efforts as a group. Come out and join us to see if you’ve got what it takes! (I really hope that the Chardonnay IPA collab that Luppolo did with Brassneck is still on! So tasty.)
I’m sure you’ve read lots about the other CAMRA Vancouver event in the newsletter already, our Annual General Meeting. This will be held at Central City on Beatty on February 25th and is a very big deal! The AGM is where we elect our new executive team, find out the winners for our 2017 CAMRA Vancouver awards (VOTING IS NOW OPEN!), and enjoy a tasty beer – brewed by our very own Education Liason! That’s right, we’re going to have a very special collab cask brewed by Central City and our very own Alastair Lindsay. If you’ve been out to any of our education classes, you know that he’s a very smart fella when it comes to beer, so I’m excited to see what he has in store for us. Get yourself out to the AGM (it’s a free event but please RSVP HERE) and help us determine the future of our CAMRA branch!
Speaking of AGMs, you should also check out the CAMRA BC AGM if you can make it out to Powell River for March 17th. They’re looking for all new board members (including President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) so send your nominations to nominations@camrabc.ca before the end of the day on February 28th. Voting will then run from March 5th to March 15th, also by emailing to nominations@camrabc.ca. Along with your nomination, remember to send along your name, address, CAMRA BC branch affiliation and CAMRA member number (This must be sent from the email address associated with your CAMRA membership). You can also vote in person if you go to the AGM, but I figured I’d leave the instructions for email voting here in case Powell River doesn’t hit the top of your travel wishlist for mid-March.
The Craft Council of British Columbia is putting on Celebrate Craft…Beer! on February 8th. This is a charitable fundraiser with 10 BC breweries bringing some seasonal brews. You’ll get to vote on the best one of the night and also check out some local craft artists, all while feeling good about donating to a worthy cause. What’s better?
Are you an adorable couple that loves craft beer? Why not celebrate your brew-tiful (yeah, I went there) partnership by going on a Valentine’s Day brewery tour, care of Vancouver Brewery Tours? Wait, it gets better… it’s called Love at 1st Flight. Oh yes, the puns and the beer are flowing, but don’t worry – I won’t be there to kill the mood with my amazing humour.
But what if you don’t like all the hearts and flying babies with medieval weaponry? Do you want to revel in your romantical freedom and show everyone how smart you are? Well Central City on Beatty has you covered. They’re putting on the Free Anti-Valentine Trivia Party so that you can stay away from all of those mushy folks out there while also proving your skill for retaining trivial knowledge!
Hopwired Festival is also happening on February 24th! This is a unique event where you’ll be able to see two of your great loves, craft beer and coffee, come together in harmony. Lots of coffee, plenty of beer (made with coffee), TACOS AND DONUTS, and great company. I’m really sad that I’m not going to be able to make it out to this one, so I need a bunch of you to go, check it out, and then report back. Seriously, they’re just listing off things that I like, so unfair! Get your tickets soon, they’re almost sold out.
Come the CAMRA Vancouver AGM this month, I will no longer be your substitute Events Coordinator. Before you flood our office (we don’t have an office) with letters (who writes physical letters these days) begging me to stay on, just know that it’s all for the best. I know we’ll find someone amazing to take up the mantle (does this guy think he’s Batman or something?) and I’m excited to see what they put on.
Cheers, Vancouver.
