Last weekend CAMRA Vancouver’s treasurer Ryan Baker returned to the Lamplighter in Gastown to retest them based on their responses to our emails.
When we first tested them last month there was some confusion over their serving sizes but I am very happy to report that they have cleared it up just as they promised.
As you can see from the video they have the serving size clearly posted on the menu and when the beer arrived it was spot on. It was also a happy hour sleeve so it only cost $3! It’s my pleasure to award the lamplighter the much coveted #FUSS approved thumbs up!
It’s so great to be able to work with these important members of the craft beer community in a positive and collaborative way. Almost all places want to comply with the rules around serving sizes but sometimes the details can slip and mistakes can be made, especially with the BC Liberals changing the rules every few weeks! Now that the Federal Government have introduced Fairness at the Pumps it’s our duty to make sure that our favourite watering holes comply so that they don’t get hit with huge fines for accidentally serving it wrong.
#FUSS has been a talking point for a while, it even featured in the excellent Friday Pints podcast – here you can hear what Donnelly Group’s Trevor K and Damon H think about it in conversation with Chris Bjerrisgaard & Graham With at 44:30. I might disagree with their take on how beer is served in the UK (but what do I know about drinking there?!) and it’s important to remember that head cannot be included in the serving, but it’s great to have people talking about it.
Many thanks to Ryan, Chris and everyone who has sent messages of support for #FUSS. If you want to help, next time you are in a pub or restaurant anywhere in BC check that the serving size (not glass size) is in the menu, if not ask your server and politely remind them that they should comply with the rules to post it publicly so consumers can make an informed choice.
