It’s coming up to the most wonderful time of the year, when a hot day calls for a lounge chair and a cold beer. And to get you started, some of our executive have some recommendations for you!

I don’t really mix it up more than usual in the Summertime. I tend to stick to stouts and IPAs and an occasional seasonal offering. One beer that I always enjoy on a hot day, however, is the Tuff Sesh from Tofino Brewing Company. It is a deliciously well balanced amber ale best enjoyed when fresh on-tap. Look for it pouring at the Alibi Room, or you can find it in bottles around town.

Powell Street Craft Breweries Old Jalopy Pale Ale is a staple of my beer drinking routine. It is an easy drinking, semi-sweet pale ale with subtle honey notes and a nice robust bittering, ultimately, that is just so very drinkable. It goes down like a session beer – though it is higher in ABV than most – which makes it a great growler fill option over the summer. I would write more, but I think I’m having to run off to Powell now for a fill, uhh… see ya!

Steel Toad released their new and improved Berliner Weiss just in time for patio season! This beer is refreshing, light and tart. Be sure to ask for their authentic German syrups to add to it when you want a little extra flavour, although this beer stands on its own quite well!!

Steel & Oak Smoked Hefeweizen screams summer to me. It was the first beer I had when I bought my new home. Sitting on the patio with a growler of this are the first memories I have in my house. I love that this is a hefe, but it’s not one of the boring ones that you can find anywhere. The smokiness gives it just a little extra mouth-feel and the subtly of the smoke makes it easy to keep you coming back for more!

As soon as it gets hot out all I want is a light ABV fruit flavour. Bomber Brewing’s Park Life is all those things. Super approachable and hopefully widely available this summer. Grab a six pack and get out in the sun!
