Pub Name: The Cascade Room
Address: 2616 Main St, Vancouver (one block South of Broadway)
Type of Bar: Craft beer-focussed restaurant with UK influence.
Environment: Pub-like, with bar stools, high-tops, booths and tables. A partitioned space at the rear can accommodate a group of around 20. Only two TVs, both over the bar, commonly not switched on or showing beauty scenes. Regular drag nights.
Drafts: One handpump serving rotating British styles, such as bitter, porter, brown ale, mild, Irish ale, Scottish ale and English IPA, all from Main Street Brewing (ownership linked). Five more Main Street beers on keg, including pilsner, hazy pale ale, West Coast IPA and rotating features. Eight more guest taps include five craft beers, Guinness, Greenhill Cider and a rotating cider. Beer is served in 16 oz or 20oz glasses. Prices for a pint vary from $8.00 for Main St. beers to $9.50 for Guinness.
Hours of operation: Sunday-Wednesday 4pm -11 pm, Thursday 4 pm to 12 am, Friday, and Saturday 4pm to 1 am.
Happy Hour: Daily happy hour is 4-6 pm with 20oz pints of Main St. beers at $6.00.
Food (Dinner only): Gastro-pub fare with vegetarian/vegan options, happy hour specials and lighter selections for late night. The first Sunday in each month they have a roast dinner. Sadly, their superb Scotch Eggs are not currently available.
Summary: Styled as “A modern take on a classic English pub” and one of the last bastions of cask-conditioned beer in Vancouver. Perfect for those looking for craft beer and conversation rather than a sports bar.
Transit: Number 9 and 99 buses on Broadway and number 3 bus on Main St. The number 8 and number 19 also stop close by.
Parking: On-street only. Bike racks nearby
