Cider 101

Not since prohibition ended has there been such interest in cider. Forget the 2 Litre sweet stuff, we will be discussing Small Batch Craft Cider or Real Cider as it’s also known. Whether you are a wine or beer drinker, if you want to learn a little more about Cider in general, then this is the class for you. We will explore the major cider styles and regions including the hugely popular Pacific Northwest style, which is a blend of Craft Beer and Cider.

Alex ‘Cider Monger’ Fortin describes himself as a cider-evangelist and is one of the leading voices for Craft Cider in the Pacific Northwest. Recognized for his highly successful blog cidermonger.com, he’s also been printed in Sip Magazine and is a regular contributor in BC Craft Beer News. In addition to writing, Alex is known for sensory evaluation which was certified by the National Association of Cider Makers in England and has judged in cider events such as the inaugural Portland International Cider Cup. As a former student of England’s Peter Mitchell and graduate of the NABC’s Cider & Perry Production Course, he is also an avid cider home brewer.
