One thing that we’ve been working on this year at the CAMRA BC level is to have some kind of recognition awards, we wanted to do something that would stand apart from other Awards. So we decided to have just four categories, one for each branch, looking at people who have done great work in the wider craft-beer community.
We’re also shaking up how we work out the winner, we need you to make nominations (closing date August 23rd) who you feel really nailed each category in 2013 and a few words why. The BC Executive will look at the nominations and then, god help us, we will argue amongst ourselves who will receive the gongs.
Another variation is that each award, sponsored by a different branch, will be different – perhaps a tankard, or a medal or a golden growler – who knows what the awards will be until the big night!
The next rule is that the current BC Executive can’t be nominated, so no matter how much you want to nominate Adam Chatburn in every category I’m afraid I’m ineligible (this time).
Here’s the link – you’ve got until the 23rd, make as many nominations in as many categories as you want.
Please take a moment to check it out – there’s so much hard work and passion in this community and it’s time that was recognised along side great beer.
The Awards presentation will rotate around the branches and this year will be held in beautiful Powell River BC On October 4th, hosted by Paddy Treavor and his Powell River Branch members, they have over 65 active members up there already! There’s going to be some great beer there, including stuff that only the locals can get. Tickets are $25 or $20 for CAMRA BC members, more on this later.
For those of you who have only heard of the legendary Powell River Oktoberfest weekend it’s time to join in the annual fun – CAMRA Vancouver will be running a party bus up for the weekend via the sunshine coast with strictly limited seats. There’ll be more details to follow but just like last year it’ll be $99 and include return travel, all ferries and ticket to the awards party.
We’re also encouraging people to make their own way there, there’s regular flights from YVR at a very reasonable price (book early) or if you’re feeling fit you could cycle there – either along the sunshine coast or via Nanaimo to Comox and across. We can bring your luggage on the bus for you!
So pencil in that weekend – the one BEFORE thanksgiving, because you’re invited to CAMRA BC’s party in spectacular Powell River. But first – your nominations please!
Adam Chatburn,
President, CAMRA BC – Vancouver Branch
