The Spotlight is a series of interviews with the craft beer heroes behind local organizations who are helping grow the beer scene in our fine city. In this issue, we look at Bottle Jockey.
There is a generally accepted understanding in these parts, that, the farther east you live in the Lower Mainland, fewer are the number of bottle shops offering quality and hard to find craft beers. For those of us fortunate enough to live in Vancouver proper, we enjoy a level of easy access to limited releases, imports and quality local beers at a reasonable price – something that many of us may take for granted. This is certainly not the case for those that live in other municipalities, who – for a long time – have had to travel out of their way to find decent selections.
More than once, I have made the trip out to their store to get my hands on releases that have sold out everywhere else, and have been extremely pleased with my experience. It is also very much worth mentioning that, during a time where the government’s egregious liquor reforms have hit private retailers in ways that stymie growth and put business sustainability at risk, Bottle Jockey has proactively offered active CAMRA members a ten percent discount on all single cans / bottles of craft beer (of all sizes). Recognizing that this comes at the expense of their profit margins, we are incredibly grateful for their generosity and support.
Bottom line? If you need convenience, trustworthy and reliable beer information, and a consistently high-quality local craft beer source based in Burnaby, go check out Bottle Jockey. You won’t be disappointed.
