Community Spotlight: R&B Ale and Pizza House

CAMRA-Vancouver-Community-Spotlight-R&B-1Wrap your head around this: if R&B were a person, they would be of legal beer-drinking age.  That’s right; R&B has been a Mount Pleasant mainstay since 1997, brewing beer for the community since long before craft beer was a “thing” in Vancouver.

The Brewery Creek veteran has recently revamped their Growler Station and upgraded their facility complete with an Ale & Pizza component (does it get any better than that?). This grand re-opening was long awaited  and eagerly anticipated. If you haven’t already stormed down their doors, we recommend you do so ASAP!

With 11 of their own brews on tap, plusCAMRA-Vancouver-Community-Spotlight-R&B-2 a guest cider (when I was there it was Tod Creek, a personal favourite) there is something for absolutely everybody at R&B. Their beers range from a simple lager to a Sour Stout (TRY IT). A flight of four beers is a reasonable $5, and pints are $6.

CAMRA-Vancouver-Community-Spotlight-R&B-3The décor is retro and fun, a vision and concept brought to life by the whole R&B team, the Fenn family, and overseen by Brent Cummings, the Operations/ Food & Beverage Manager. There are bookshelves, a fireplace, and sports playing on a projector screen in the corner. Due to the “pizza” portion of the new space (the Garlic Mushroom and Prosciutto come highly recommended), kids are also happy to hang out.

Most importantly, the new space is comfortable; that is, in my opinion, the best part of R&B. The space and the staff (and the beers) are inviting, unpretentious, and welcoming. Everyone I spoke with said that their favorite part of the business is creating relationships with their beer-loving clientele and neighbours (with sampling the beers and pizza coming in at a close second). The beer-loving clientele and neighbours all said that they couldn’t imagine Mount Pleasant without this staple brewery.

Don’t forget to fill your growler on the way out!
(Side note: R&B is still looking to hire new staff to round out their awesome team.)
